New PUBG Patch Live On PC–Everything You Need To Know About Update 6.2, Team Deathmatch Mode

Team deathmatch is the highlight, but update 6.2 brings plenty of changes.

The latest big update for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is now live on PC, and will be making its way to the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game soon. The major highlight of this patch is the new team deathmatch mode, which allows for eight-on-eight gunfights across seven different arenas taken from the game’s maps. The mode, which has been added as part of the game’s sixth season, is available through the Arcade menu.
Victory in a round is decided when a team hits 50 kills, or by which team has the most kills after 10 minutes, and a team needs to win two of three rounds to secure the overall win. Players can respawn and earn points for both kills and assists, which can then be used to restore health if you go five seconds without receiving damage. There are no knockdowns or friendly fire.

Update 6.2 is now live on PC.

Changes have also been made to grenades, with the patch notes noting differences across every different kind. Here’s what to expect.

Frag Grenades

  • Vests now mitigate damage received from Frag Grenades, but vest durability isn’t reduced when taking damage from Frags.
    • Damage mitigation amount is dependent on the level of vest worn by the player, with the same % reduction as for bullet damage.
  • Frags will deal 20% less damage to prone players.
  • Item weight increased by 50%.
    • Each Frag Grenade now takes 27 inventory capacity, up from 18.
  • Pulling the pin of a Frag is now louder and audible from further away.

Smoke Grenades

  • Decreased fuse time from 3 seconds to 1 second.

Stun Grenades

  • Increased indirect hit effect radius
    • Up to 6.5m, from 5.5m.
  • Ringing sound now impacts players through walls
    • This matches the Frag Grenade mechanic, although the impact effects a smaller radius.
  • Added slight camera shake to players near the explosion.
  • Default fuse time mechanic:
    • Stuns now explode 0.7 sec after first impact, or after fuse timer runs out, whichever comes first.
    • Fuse time without cooking has been increased to 5 sec.
      • 2.5 second fuse timer when cooking the stun remains unchanged.

Molotov Cocktail

  • Increased the speed at which fire spreads by 50%.
  • Fire can now spread slightly further, with an increased damage radius.
  • Changed the way fire spreads around objects. Fire will now more consistently reach the back side of objects (especially thin objects like trees).
  • Re-introduced direct damage while standing in fire, in additional to existing damage over time.
    • Players in fire will now take an additional 10 damage per second
  • Fire now reaches higher and should be obstructed less by small objects.
Multiple changes have also been made to the Karakin map, mostly based on observing how players gather loot. Here are the changes:
  • G36C and MP5K have been added to Karakin
  • Spawn rate of First Aid Kits and boost items have been increased
  • Spawn rate of bandages has been decreased
  • Spawn rate of DMR, SR and Win94 on Karakin has been decreased
  • Increased care package airplane speed to move faster across the island
Interesting changes have also come for the blue zone, which no longer has a distortion effect, but has a brighter light at the bottom to more clearly show the edge. Here’s a before-and-after comparison.

There’s a new parachute follow feature too, so you can select a teammate in the plane and ensure that you land together. This should lead to fewer separations in the initial mad scramble.
Plenty of other small tweaks have been made beyond these highlights, too–for more, look over the full patch notes.
PUBG continues to be huge in the wake of more competition in the battle royale genre; the mobile version, in particular, is very popular. Brendan Greene, the titular PlayerUnknown, is working on a new game called Prologue, and it’s not a shooter at all.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions Shows Wild Anime Story And Moves In New Trailer

“Only teamwork can win championships!”

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is a different take on soccer from what the likes of FIFA 20 and PES 20 offer, letting players tap into the power of anime. A new trailer has been announced for the game’s story mode, showing off not only some of the game’s more melodramatic plot elements, but also the character-specific super moves that you’ll get to use and play against.

The trailer emphasizes the importance of working as a team, and shows off the cast of characters that will likely be familiar to fans of the franchise.
The trailer is the game’s second, following the earlier announcement trailer. We also have footage from a hands-on session with the game, which is due to release on Switch, PS4, and PC later in 2020.
Captain Tsubasa’s manga has been running, under different names, since 1981. The most recent incarnation is Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun, which is now printed in the new Captain Tsubasa Magazine. It has also been adapted into multiple anime series.
The franchise has previously been made into a game for the PlayStation 2, simply titled Captain Tsubasa. A mobile game, Captain Tsubasa: Tatakae Dream Team released in 2017.

Sea Of Thieves’ Crews Of Rage Update Adds A Furious Ship-Burning Chest And Viva Pinata Cosmetics

New tomes are also available now.

Sea of Thieves’ latest update, Crews of Rage, sends players off on a quest to collect some particularly dangerous treasure. Go and visit Duke and he’ll send you off on new bounties that will involve tracking down the Chest of Rage, which contains the souls of trapped pirates that are desperate for release.
As seen in the video below, the Chest of Rage needs to be kept cool, as the anger it contains threatens to burst forth. If you don’t occasionally wet it with a dip in the ocean or a bucket of water, it’ll flare fire in all directions–which can be absolutely hazardous if you’re on your boat.
Alternatively, you can purposefully make the chest angry by shooting it and use those flames to your advantage, attacking enemy skeletons.
The mysterious Masked Stranger will buy the chest from you, so you don’t need to carry it around and placate it forever.
There’s plenty more that has been added to the game with this update. The final five Ashen Tomes have been added, which you can find for the Bilge Rats. Finding them all will unlock some firey cosmetics for your ship. In fact, a lot of new cosmetics are being added to the game, as well as new weapons and cursed pets.
Perhaps most excitingly, for long time Rare fans, Viva Pinata themed ship cosmetics have been added to the game. You can now celebrate Rare’s Xbox 360 creature-management games by adorning your ship in bright colors.

Sea of Thieves has been the most successful new IP on Xbox this generation, and was one of the major attractions of Game Pass when it launched. While the game had a rocky launch, which was reflected in reviews, improvements have been made in the nearly two years since.

No Man’s Sky Living Ship Patch Notes–Every Major Change And Addition In Update 2.3

The full patch notes for No Man’s Sky update 2.3 are here.

No Man’s Sky has just added a major new feature–living ships. These pilotable behemoths are the major focus of the latest update, but they’re not the only thing that has changed. Developer Hello Games has released the full patch notes for 2.3, which reveal new features and bug fixes across the board.
Chief among these changes are the fact that NPCs can now hail your communicator in space to call for assistance or rope you into some scheme, as well as the addition of new rare space encounters that will offer up new thrills and potentially yield interesting rewards. You’ll also now be able to warp as a group if you’re playing in multiplayer, which is handy.

Here are the full patch notes for No Man’s Sky update 2.3.

Living Ship

  • Introduced a new style of starship, the Living Ship.
  • These ships have their own exclusive range of organic technologies and cannot be upgraded by conventional means.
  • Adjust your playstyle to the restrictions and benefits of these organic techs, or hatch and evolve new procedural upgrades to grow your own custom ship.

Missions

  • Incubate your Void Egg and learn about the origin of the Living Ships with a new mission chain, Starbirth.
  • Completing these missions will hatch the Void Egg into your own procedurally generated Living Ship.
  • Additional ships may be hatched from subsequently incubated eggs.

Space Encounters

  • While using the Pulse Engine to fly between planets, there is a chance of encountering strange objects in local space.
  • Drop out of pulse-flight to begin the encounter.
  • A large range of strange objects and exotic rewards await…
  • Different encounters have different chances of occurring based on the characteristics of the solar system.

Trader Hails

  • As well as strange objects, players may also encounter passing trader ships.
  • These will hail the player while using the Pulse Engine and may need assistance, offer to trade, and more…

Quality of Life

  • If players are in a group but do not have a Nexus mission active, then when taking off from the Space Anomaly they can now choose to exit directly to the system of any other player in their group.
  • Fixed a number of issues that caused planetary charts and others scans to pick from too narrow a range of buildings. Players should no longer be sent repeatedly to the same building when using multiple charts.
  • Fixed an issue that caused distress signals to occasionally lead to a crashed ship site with no crashed ship.
  • Added an instant split button to allow players to quickly divide stacks of items in half.
  • Players can now hold down buttons to increase or decrease stack sizes, rather than having to press repeatedly.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Exocraft Summoning Station from working if placed within a base.
  • Improved the range of the Exocraft Summoning Station, so that it allows Exocraft to be summoned from anywhere in the system.
  • Planets that you have discovered no longer need to be repeatedly rescanned to see their resources from space.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the planetary resources popup to flicker while pulsing towards a planet.
  • Fixed an issue that made it difficult to enter Space Stations from tight angles.
  • Allowed starships to reverse during atmospheric flight if stuck in other geometry.
  • The automatic Launch System Recharger now functions while the player is sitting in the cockpit, if the ship is landed.
  • Improved VR swimming controls for VR devices that use thumbsticks.
  • Significantly increased the distance players are able to move the camera in Photo Mode.

Optimizations

  • Introduced a number of significant GPU optimisations to terrain rendering.
  • Introduced a number of significant optimisations to terrain generation.
  • Introduced a number of significant memory optimisations.
  • Introduced some minor load time optimisations.
  • Introduced some smaller optimisations and visual fixes to cloud rendering.
  • Introduced a number of water rendering optimisations for PSVR.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue that caused Proximity Switches to be activated by empty Exocraft.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented decals from working when customising Exocraft appearances.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Analysis Visor UI to judder in VR.
  • Fixed a number of issues that made it difficult to warp to the centre of the galaxy.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the kill count to reset in the final mission for the Armourer if players entered a building during combat.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Carbon Planters to be unavailable for purchase.
  • Construction-style missions from the Nexus will properly mark the desired construction site if players leave the planet mid-mission.
  • Fixed a number of issues that prevented items from being taken out of or put into Storage Containers.
  • Fixed an issue where pirates would occasionally ask for wildly incorrect amounts when bargaining for peace.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent special mission Portals on the Artemis path from functioning correctly if they were left while in an active state.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a ship docked at a Trade Outpost to be placed underneath the landing pad when loading into the game.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the filter icons to be incorrectly aligned in the Galaxy Map.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when warping to a base after having used a Portal.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Nexus missions to be restarted from the mission log.
  • Fixed a number of issues that could cause Nexus missions to select inappropriate star systems.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Nexus missions to send players to the wrong building.
  • Fixed an issue that could occasionally cause visual elements of the Personal Refiner to render in first person.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Personal Refiner not to stop animating when refining was complete.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the names of unknown planets to be revealed by their moons.
  • Improved the position of HUD markers in the Analysis Visor UI.
  • Improved the positioning of the ship repair UI in VR.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the ship crosshair to judder.
  • Fixed some minor text issues in missions objectives and the Guide.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause filters to apply incorrectly on the Space Station, Space Anomaly, frigates and freighters.
  • Fixed an issue that made the Space Anomaly too green when using HDR.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the VR eject handles in ship cockpits from lighting up when the player first enters the ship.
  • Fixed a rare issue that allowed players to equip weapons in the Space Anomaly.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Solar Panels from playing their audio.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the torchlight to flicker while moving.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause recently used interactions to be reset shortly after loading.
  • Fixed an issue that caused an empty black dialogue box to appear when leaving a planetary Technology Merchant.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Nutrient Processor’s inventory to be incorrectly labelled.
  • Updated the visuals of the Bytebeat Cable so it is distinct from the Teleport Cable.
  • Fixed an issue with the Bytebeat Switch that caused the On Arpeggio Note output to fire when not playing an arpeggio.
  • Fixed an issue with the Bytebeat Switch that caused note colours to be reversed.
  • Fixed an issue with the Bytebeat Switch that caused triggers to be sent for parts that are not active in the Synchroniser.
  • Fixed an issue in the Bytebeat that caused visuals to go out of sync when editing tempo.
  • Fixed a number of minor glitches when scrubbing in the Bytebeat UI.
  • Fixed an issue that caused pirate probes to always fail when the Pulse Engine was active.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Pulse Engine tutorial to incorrectly appear in the middle of combat.
  • Fixed a text mismatch in the standing rewards, where Mercenary and Explorers Guild standing rewards were mislabeled.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Surveying Tutorial to move on before the player had actually learned the Survey Device.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Show HUD binding from working on PC keyboard controls when piloting a ship.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a number of building parts to be unknown when starting a Creative Mode game, including industrial Silos.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Black Holes not to warp players if they were somehow approached on foot.
If it’s been a while since you hopped into No Man’s Sky, other recent additions include a music maker and the ability to upgrade ships.

This adorable PUBG frying pan cosmetic helps Australian bushfire relief efforts, hurts enemies’ heads

Another studio comes to the aid of Australia

PUBG is the latest game to offer players a chance to send aid to Australia for the country’s ongoing bushfire relief efforts. A new cosmetic for the battle royale progenitor’s iconic frying pans is now available. The skin was designed by community member and Twitter hero, Shitty Watercolour, whose famous paintings aren’t as bad as their username would have you believe.
The PUBG Twitter account announced 100% of the profits from sales of the skin “will be donated to help communities across Australia with immediate bushfire relief and future support.” The art is an original work for the game and features two of the country’s most instantly recognizable animals, a koala bear and a kangaroo. As they hug, a PUBG-style first aid kit sits in front of them.
100% of the profit raised from the Australia Fire Relief – Pan skin will be donated to help communities across Australia with immediate bushfire relief and future support.

Thanks to community artist @SWatercolour for kindly contributing his original art.

The charity drive is a wonderful one as the bushfires have sadly fallen out of the mainstream news cycle but continue to rage in some areas of Down Under. PUBG joins a long list of games and game creators to step up and promote bushfire charity work like this. We’ve seen recently Bethesda put on livestreams, Kojima Productions has sold merch, Destiny has sold T-shirts, Call of Duty refocused an earlier cosmetic to directly benefit the inundated country, while Ubisoft sent a bunch of money to Australia directly, as it couldn’t justify the time needed to craft new merch or in-game items while Australia needed all the help it could get as fast it it could get it.
It’s likely PUBG won’t be the last game to announce some sort of charity drive like this, and we’ll be sure to round up more stories like this if and when more companies use their platform for good like this.
Naughty Dog recently got in on the charity efforts too, with livestreams benefitting bushfire relief.

Sea of Thieves update makes opening Ashen Chests much easier

It also makes 24 achievements much easier in the process

The latest Sea of Thieves update is out now, and amid waves of changes to all kinds of areas, one particular change will delight achievement hunters. The random elements of discovering and opening Ashen Chests have been drastically improved, making 24 achievements and their related cosmetics much easier to obtain.
It was a few months ago when Rare began to add Tomes to the game. These mystical books come in many forms, always in groups of five: Tomes of Power, Tomes of Curses, Tomes of Fire, and today’s latest set, Tomes of Resurrection. Selling them to Duke nets you new Ashen Dragon cosmetics and unlocks an achievement for each Tome, of which there are now 20 in total, in addition to four achievements to unlocking a whole set of five. You can only find them inside Ashen Chests, which themselves aren’t so hard to find. You could always buy an Ashen Chest Stash Voyage from Duke, you may find them in the open world, and you were guaranteed to find one in every fort.
The problem was the Ashen Keys you needed to open them to get to the Tomes inside. They were extremely rare, and other than also being guaranteed to include one at every fort vault, there was no reliable way to find an Ashen Key. You had to stumble on them, either by fishing or by defeating randomly spawning Ashen Key Masters. They were a pain. But starting today, they aren’t.

Head to Duke and you’ll find, along with the option to buy Ashen Chest Stash Voyages for 50 Doubloons each, you can now purchase Ashen Key Stash Voyages for 99 Doubloons each. It’s a steeper price than most items in the Black Market, but if you’re a regular player of Sea of Thieves, you probably have a good cache of Doubloons right now after the last few months have been really generous. And it’s so much better than giving up on finding a key and selling your locked Ashen Chest for 5 Doubloons.
There’s still an RNG element to contend with, as which Tomes you receive when you open the chest is still a randomized process, but the fact that pirates no longer have to scour every salty drop of the sea to find an Ashen Key makes 24 of the game’s achievements – and those sweet, sweet Ashen Dragon cosmetics – much more obtainable.
Sea of Thieves is forever in Game Pass. Here’s what else you should play if you’re a subscriber.

This may be the logo from the WB Montreal Batman game, and it looks a lot like Batman Beyond

Another bat-leak may have teased the game

Two images have emerged online that seem to reveal the logo for the unannounced WB Montreal project which many assume to be a new Batman game. Both images depict an elevator with an unmistakable bat symbol on it, but it’s not a bat symbol we can find anywhere else online. It does bear a striking resemblance to one particular Batman story though: Batman Beyond. The images were first shared by James Sigfield, games reporter for The GWW.
This could possibly be our first look at the logo from the new Batman game reboot.

No, that’s not Zsasz in the second photo. It’s the game director of WB Montreal, Geoff Ellenor, who, along with the WB logos on the elevator, gives credence to the story that these images really come from inside the building.

It’s hardly a confirmation, however. WB Montreal was rumored to be working on a different Batman game years ago, focused on Bruce Wayne’s son Damien, so any sort of Batman Beyond angle they may have taken inspiration from would go well with a logo like that. It may no longer be the case that the Damien Wayne game is the studio’s current, oft-teased project.

If this logo does reflect the current project, it’s a stark departure from the Arkham chronology, which may signify that this next Batman game is a reboot, as Sigfield reported earlier this month. Allegedly, this new Batman game is meant to kick off a broader DC Games Universe, which is partly why we’ve heard about a Superman game coming to Xbox Series X as well.
There’s still a lot to learn and one has to wonder if WB Montreal’s original reveal date was pushed back after it started teasing the game last fall before several months of silence. We’ll light the bat-signal when we know more.
It looks like the Batman game will also involve Court of Owls. Here’s everything else we know about the game.

PlatinumGames is revealing its next game the old-fashioned way: in a magazine

The Platinum4 comes into greater focus next Friday

PlatinumGames is revealing a new game next week and it will do so in good old fashioned print form. That news comes according to popular Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, which stated in this week’s issue that the fan-favorite studio has a new game to debut in its February 27 issue. The news was first reported by Gematsu.
If we’ve read the tea leaves correctly, this should be game number two of the “Platinum4,” a newly launched website from the company which seemingly points to four new games in development. We know the first one is The Wonderful 101 Remastered, which recently flew up the Kickstarter charts like one of its titular superheroes. That project is now deep into its stretch goal campaign two of which were recently revealed.
As for what this second project could be, your guess is as good as ours, though The Wonderful 101 Remastered did leak quite a bit before its crowdfunding campaign went live. Maybe more loose lips will spoil the Famitsu reveal ahead of next Friday.
It was just days ago when Platinum commented on hoping to one day revive its cancelled project, Scalebound. That title was intended to be a Microsoft exclusive before the company canned it, and we’ve since heard it may come back as a Switch title, though Platinum’s comments last week don’t sound like those from a company actively working on the game. It was more wishful thinking than anything, but who can blame them? We’d like to see it come back someday too.
If you need even more Platinum projects in your life, don’t miss Babylon’s Fall.
